Director Alejandro Jodorowsky's bizarre, blood-soaked blend of spaghetti Western, druggy surrealism, Christian allegory, Zen Buddhist themes and avant-garde sensibilities gave rise to the entire "Midnight Movie" counterculture phenomenon of the early 70s.
